This article is a shout out to an elegant mix of Belgian architecture and interior design that has already scored headlines world wide. I'm lucky enough to have listed a property that got to benefit from that same collaboration and therefore turned into a real exclusive piece of real estate in Antwerp.
I'm talking about architect Vincent Van Duysen and interior designer Axel Vervoordt. These names might ring a bell if you're into home design, but also because they've recently scored international headlines with their collab on the home of - no one less than - Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in California. I've personally always been a big fan of Van Duysen 's design, his name was also mentioned several times on the series: Million dollar listing. - BTW: I spotted on instagram that he owns dachshunds so you can imangine that made him increase in my ranking even more haha! -
I first came across Van Duysen's work in Antwerp in a building right across from our Engel & Völkers' office, where I had rented out a few apartments as one of my first jobs in real estate. For me, some features that I always recognize in his work are; clever use of space, doors/cupboards that go up to the ceiling in combination with big sliding doors and the ability of giving a space a certain design without excluding the livability. - Well, I'm not trying to give you any lecture on architecture, you have other websites for that, but I'm giving you my own perspective on it. - So, what I'm saying is that his interiors are a lust for the eye, but they're also still very warm and homey. It's not an interior where you almost feel like you shoudln't fully live in - let alone with kids - because it's so clean. It's so family friendly! - I mean, ask the Kardashians -
And I first came across Axel Vervoordt at an exhibition of the Belgian Watch brand Raidillon and for a listing of mine in the picturesque Vlaeykensgang in Antwerp. Every true "Antwerpian" associates the Vlaeykensgang with Axel Vervoordt. And I mean, he creates magic in a room, I think his staging here is brilliant! What he does gives so much identity to a space. He's also so much more than an interior designer but everyone who knows me knows that I'm not too familiar with art and antiques, but I just love how a modern setting can be harmonised with stylish antique pieces.
Minimalism is key, and living surface is power. That's what pops up in my mind when I think of my listing in Antwerp. I'm a big fan of the way modern lifestyle gets incorporated with the history of a building. And this building used to be an old warehouse where tobacco was stored, only later it was turned into lofts, but the industrial atmosphere is really present and made "chiquer" by design.
As you enter the apartement, you immediately feel that this listing is the real definition of a loft because of the open concept, a lot of natural light and the brick beams from the warehouse that are still exposed. Only premium materials were used, from matt varnished parquet floors to carrara marble tops and nickel faucets. The open kicthen is every entertainers dream, with a lot of bespoke cupboards and premium cooking equipment.
There's a really nice balance between the night area and the day area, seperated by a big sliding door. In all tranquility, you can find the bedrooms and the very remarkable bathrooms. The main bath area gives you a royal spa feeling because of its two doors that open up entirely and the marble details.
This is only one of the few things that make this loft so special. I'd say take the opportunity to get your hands on a real Van Duysen, because I feel like it's a name that will put Belgian architecture more and more on the map every day! And even now there still aren't that many apartments that were entirely designed by them in Antwerp city, and here you even have the massive benefit of being super central and also have an own parking space downstairs.
The building is located 2 minutes from the main shopping streets, 10 minutes from the Central Station, 1 minute from the Saturday and Sunday market.
I'm happy to tell you - and show you more - about these names and of course this premium apartment during a visit! So I'd say, contact me reaaaaal quick, and I'll explain to you why this is an opportunity you don't want to miss.
Always happy to have a chat about real estate!
All the best,
